Beschreibung
Said to be built from old ships' timbers by Sir Christopher Wren, Ye Olde Watling dates back to 1668. One claim to fame is that its upstairs rooms were used as a drawing office during the building of London’s St Paul's Cathedral, which is just a 5-minute walk away.
Since Nicholson’s pubs were first established in 1873, these traditional British inns have become synonymous with warm hospitality, hearty pub food and a speciality range of ales. As well as always featuring British pub classics like beer-battered fish & chips and gammon & eggs, the Ye Olde Watling menu is complemented by a rotating selection of pie, sausage & chop and fish specials for each season.
The Ye Olde Watling bar is always stocked with exquisite gins, warming whiskies and fine wines to pair with favourite meals, and there’s always a superb range of seasonal and regional real ales on offer. A constant at the bar is the St Austell-brewed Nicholson’s Pale Ale, made with Cornish Maris Otter malts, and a hand-picked blend of English hops.
Ye Olde Watling in St Paul’s is just a 2-minute walk from Mansion House Tube Station.

Excellent food and service with attentive and friendly staff - I have been here twice in 3 days as I was so impressed! I had braised steak in red wine and also sausages which were both great. The atmosphere was warm and welcoming and importantly not too noisy!

The refurbishment is a great success and has very much smartened up the upstairs dining room although I would have preferred it if curtains had been re-instated which I understand is not the plan. As always, the food and wine were excellent and the staff a delight

Warm welcome from Jackie; table ready and waiting even though we were a little early. She was extremely helpful and the only hold-up was waiting for the ice to come up from the bar for our pre-lunch drinks, for which she apologised. No pressure on us throughout the meal and very pleased to have her recommendations as regards wines. Pity about the roadworks outside though with the constant pneumatic drill noise which evidently just started before opening time and had been quiet all morning! Only other quibble was my guest's steak was fatty in the middle and so a bit tough; he asks the firm brings back the minute steak when the menu is re-vamped for the autumn.
