Nestled in a quaint courtyard in the City, The Don offers celebrated European fine dining. The Don is listed in Hardens, Square Meal and Good Food Guides, and a showering of awards comes courtesy of the Wine Spectator. In 1342 it was the home of one of London’s great City Guilds, the Drapers, who rich on the profits of the British wool trade bought many of the buildings that line the cobblestoned lane.
Cosy vaulted spaces and plush hideaways brimming with history await diners at The Don restaurant which offers two light, airy and elegant dining rooms, both with large windows and featuring stunning abstract paintings, a cosy basement bistro, bar and several private dining spaces. Modern European flavours dominate the menu, and in addition to the extensive a la carte they offer a fantastic value weekly set-menu.
Proudly presenting its city-wide celebrated wine list, The Don at Cannon Street presents a cellar of 400 bottles. Some covetable vintage ports, sherries and madeiras date back to 1900.
Just a 1-minute walk from Cannon Street Rail Station, The Don dining room boasts expansive windows looking out onto the quaint neighbouring courtyard, and a gallery of Hoyland canvases.

good atmosphere for a business lunch, good food, disappointing (=> characterless, cold, detached) service (I knew that already so no drama). you should not have to ask for the bread (after they put a sad-looking bowl of butter on the table). and then it should be left in a basket, not given piece by piece (once only through the meal, upon request), This is French restaurant, bread is part of the game not a marginal accessory.

Great food and service. Although city venue they did not rush my group of 3 ladies lunching at all - so was very relaxed.

Went with my SIL for lunch, and we loved every minute. A very relaxed but well put together dining room. Our waiters were very attentive and the food was fab. We both had the risotto and profiteroles, order either and you won’t be disappointed

It was a perfect place to catch up with friends! We had the champagne 3 course meal and every course was absolutely delicious. We had the table for the evening and there was no rush. Tables are far enough apart that conversations are private. Fabulous history to the place. This is one of my favourite restaurants and it lived up to expectations again :-)

Food was great but service was surly! The waiters seemed in a hurry to clear our plates and glasses even before we had finished!

Food was nice, but at 9pm the restaurant emptied out and the waiters started to dismantle other tables and clean up around us, which spoiled the end of our meal. Considering our booking for a 3-course dinner was at 7.30pm, the end was rushed and we felt compelled to hurry and leave. Not the enjoyable catch up experience I had planned with a friend from abroad I had not seen in a long time

As a visitor to London, I like to find restaurants that are a little out of the way. The Don is accessed by a courtyard off St Swithins Lane and is nice and quiet for early evening dining. A good looking room, with large abstract paintings and comfortable décor. There is a discreet private dining area too. The staff are very courteous and highly professional. It was good to see that a couple of single diners received less formal service and that there was time to chat. The menu for our Bookatable offer was selective but interesting. The dishes were all cooked to perfection and the side dishes - optional - were sensibly priced. There is a commercial link between the restaurant and a Marlborough winery, so the house wine by the glass or carafe was of a very high quality. Service was unhurried and a discretionary service charge of 12.5% was included in the bill, which I personally find helpful. A great experience and excellent value. Oh and there was an arrival glass of champagne and complementary coffee and tea at the end of the meal too, which made the Bookatable offer even more attractive.
